Lucky Me & The Little Things

Our peas in a pod are now available in custom birthstone colors! The ‘peas’ are Swarovski crystals that you can special order to all be one birthstone color, or in the birthstone colors of the children represented in the pod. Or just the color that you think is the prettiest of course.

For startert these are only available in the Lucky Accessories Etsy shop, but eventually they will migrate to the website I am sure.

Though I didn’t see a single movie nominated for the Oscars this year I thought I would curl up and check out the seremony anyways. Who knows I may just pick up on some overdue celebrity gossip while I was there.

If you did the same thing, did you see the necklace Mickey Rourke was wearing? He recently lost his pooch and wore a necklace with the little k-9 on it in remembrance. I thought it was adorable and thoughtful, especially because I tend to cheer for those who take the road less traveled. Which in this case means I will cheer for the individual who leaves the diamonds at home, and wears something more valuable in another sense to the Oscars. Also, a man wearing a necklace! Love it.

Anyways, the reason why I am even making a celebrity shout-out here in the first place is because if you did see that bauble on Rourke’s neck, and thought to yourself something along the lines of “Great golly, what a great idea, I wish I could have a necklace like that for my very own self.” I am here to help you. As a matter of fact, I can even get more fancy with it and make it into something like a custom bracelet like I did for a customer below; one for herself and one for her BFF. How special is that! As I was filling a bunch of Little Reminders orders this week, it struck my how this particular batch was such a showing of hope and trust. I think it kind of shows a tiny snapshot of humanity under pressure. I think when times are tough and looking gloomy and unsure in the future, that’s when we often show our true colors and our inner strength comes out in many different forms. Be it hope, faith, trust, strenght, or a combination of them all. And I love that something that I create can be a little something that can remind you to use those inner resources when you need them most. Awesome.

I am excited to share that after getting them out into the public last month I have already received a great response to my Made Of Money jewelry pieces. It seems you all are just as excited about them as I am! Aside from selling quite a few of them already, I have received tons of compliments, and customers have often asked about the possibility of me creating these pieces with coins they have had for a long time without having much use for them but special to their history. I am please to say that I am more than happy to make something with coins you provide! I love making custom orders because every single time I design and create something I hope it’s something special to the person that ends up wearing it, instead of something disposable and meaningless. When making a custom order I know for a fact that the piece will be very special to the recipient, which makes me love what I do all the more.

After happily receiving such a great response already I went ahead and sorted my big stash of coins from around the world so I can have a better idea of the variety I will be able to offer as I make them. At my disposal at this time I have Italian lire, Spanish pesetas, Portugese escudos, French centimes and francs, Belgian francs, German pfennigs, British pence, and Japanese Yen. But now that I have a purpose for these I am hoping to actually grow the variety of coins I own. Ebay here I come!

So after the sorting I went ahead and got a batch of the coins ready for production. I just finished a total of 10 necklaces and 10 earrings which I will be bringing along to my shows and a few of them will appear in the Etsy shop before the end of the week!

Finally, and just in time for Valentines day, I have added the custom photo or art pendants to the site! For a mere $35 I will create a beautiful custom pendant around your favorite photo or art print. You can add a ribbon to hang it somewhere you get to see it much, or wear it on your favorite chain (you may buy a chain in addition if you don’t already have one). There are oodles of options you can choose from to have it be the size you want, and you will get a gorgeous piece of vintage wallpaper on the reverse side, unless you want a second picture there for only $10 more.

One of the greatest things that happened for my business in 2007 (albeit during my craziest season, with very little turnaround time) was a fantastic order through a wonderful rep and retailer of my goods in Las Vegas; Anne-Marie Kovacs. She ordered custom ‘little reminders’ to use in gift bags for the grand opening for the first Lululemon location in Vegas. I was terribly excited at the size of the order, and though I have to admit that I had never heard of Lululemon before, as soon as I saw their manifesto I was also really excited to create something especially for them, as they seem to embody exactly the things I reach for with my ‘reminders’ and with my life in general. Anne-Marie just shared some details of what sounds like a fantastic grand opening indeed in her blog, along with the excitement to be caused by the goods in the goody bags which also housed my custom reminders along with other custom created goods by other artists.

Now hopefully the next step is to get the big-wigs within the Lululemon company interested in possibly carrying those custom reminders in a few, if not all!, their store locations. I hope, wish, and pray this will happen as it would catapult my my little business to a whole new level!

Once again, an idea I have been wanting to get out of my head and into actual product for years is finally coming alive. A natural addition to having the soldered wallpaper pendants is offering custom photo pendants with vintage wallpaper in the other side, or as a border.
In coming up with samples I didn’t want to offer only examples using pictures of just me, my husband, our boy, our cat or our dog, so I’ve been able to work out a deal with some fantastic women who are letting me use their adorable pictures for my samples. I couldn’t be more excited about the assortment of adorable photographs I will now be able to use for my showcase. Here’s a sneak peek at them, before they meet with my soldering iron
