Playing Hookie

This morning I woke up with a killer headache. It didn’t help that as I woke I realized it was only 15 minutes before Nolan would be picked up for school, and he too was still nestled in his fluffy and cozy ikea covers. Fortunately the mention of waffles (which he only eats for breakfast on the weekends, and lobbys for all though the week) helped shoot him out of bed, and believe it or not, 15 minutes later Nolan was fed, brushed, clothed, and happily waiting for his ride. Now I will confide in you that is a true testament to the fact that he LOVES school. Normally I’d rather find a pit of rattle snakes and roll around in that for a few minutes than rush this little man, who is JUST FINE doing everything on his own pace thankyouverymuch!
So after I wached his cab drive off my head was throbbing so bad I about threw up, and I made a beeline back to the bed. Knowing I wouldn’t able to go back to sleep and I don’t do very well just sitting there, I grabed my laptop, a coffee, and a planned craft project on the way back to bed.
At the beginning of this year, as I made a fun ‘year in craft’ collage for 2007 it struck me that though I craft and create a whole lot of the time (it is my business after all) 99% of those crafts were money making related, and not a whole lot of them were just for fun, me, or friends and family. So right then and there I decided that this year I was going to make an intention to do more crafting just for the fun of it, without making it all into a money making venture. So here is where I confess that I haven’t been doing very good on that intention so far this year. Fortunately fall has started and this feeling in the air always gives me a craving for curling up with a cup of coffee and a fun craft. With this in mind I have been getting quite a few knitting, crocheting and felting books from the library, and just last night I came across a project in one of them that immediately got my fingers itching. It’s the very first project in the book Just Gifts from Lion Brand Yarn, called “Scott the Bear.”
So this morning on my hurry back into bed I grabbed the things that closely matched the supply list for this project, popped my allergy meds and two advil, opened my laptop to the last episodes of Ghost Hunters on Hulu, and got to work. By the time the second episode finished I had finished all that I could, and my headache was no longer bad enough to keep me in bed. Now all I have to do is find some polyfill and this cute little project is done. I can’t wait to show it off.
Now before I dive into work I just have to share that my ‘library station‘ on last.fm has been stellar lately. In the past I could not listen to it for very long because it was getting too repetitive, and the last thing I want to do is listen to my favorite songs so often I get tired of them. So if you made it all the way to the end of this rambling post, why don’t you head over there and reward yourself with a little listen.

that bear is so cute! i hope you feel better soon!
