St Nicholas; Santa’s skinny brother
Nov 16th, 2007 Posted in Uncategorized | one comment »There’s a great article about Sinterklaas on Etsy’s Storque that describes this holiday I grew up with perfectly. It’s a tradition I do miss, and hope to bring back into Nolan’s life sooner rather than later. Even though I have told my friend Leeann this exact story about St Nicholas and it’s practices several times, each time she tells someone else it’s morphed into a St Nicholas/Santa holiday on crack in her head. I can’t remember all the intricate details she adds to the holiday, but one of them is ‘so in Holland in the beginning of December they have this holiday where little black midgets break into people’s homes through the fireplace!’
To the beat of his own drum
Nov 16th, 2007 Posted in Uncategorized | no comment »While aunt Tamara and Damien were visiting this past weekend, Tamara tried to take a little film of Nolan dancing one day. He refused to dance that first time, but the next day while playing in his room Tamara walked in to take some pictures of him before she had to leave again. That’s when Nolan asks:”Aunt Tamara, can you please take a film of me dancing?” She ofcourse happily obliges, and here’s the result. Note there was no actual music playing.

The Balancing Act
Nov 16th, 2007 Posted in Business Topics, Me Me Me | 2 comments »Boy oh boy how this time of the year always kicks me in the booty- in a good way. Since going full time with my biz, the fall season has soared high above the rest of the year, which is great and exciting, and inspiring, and empowering, and exhausting all at the same time. Last year and the year before I was absolutely spent come December, and I was frantically overwhelmed throughout the season. This year I noticed I’ve gotten a lot better at enticipating the busy times, and I’ve managed to keep the balance of home, work, and fun somewhat even, which is encouraging, and I hope to do oven better next year.
These last couple of weeks, in the ‘fun’ category, my internet times have been a bit limited. I am trying to get back into that part now because it is one of my favorite things to do. I don’t know why, but I love sharing my life online. I’ve been obsessed with the internet since I first found out about it 13 years ago, and I’ve loved watching it grow and take over life-as-we-knew-it. My new flickr fun project is Wardrobe Remix. For me it’s really just a way to get back into the posting picture routine, not really to show off my clothes, as there is really not much to show off, much like what project 365 was for me (which I am determined to pick up again btw). Who knows for how long I will actually keep up with it, but I know I am going to have a great time with it while it lasts.
I am also determined to start taking some pictures of the stunning fall trees that have been taunting me allover downtown Raleigh. I never remember fall being so gorgeous here. I wonder if that’s because out where we used to live there are so many ever-green trees that the fall colors were hidden? But downtown has turned yellow and red and purple and orange, and it’s lovely.
Along with the increase of the cold weather, so has my appetite and waistline increased. I can’t help that the cold kicks my body in hibernation mode, and for the first time in my life I don’t actually care. Don’t get me wrong- I am not planning on becoming a fat slob, but this has been a year of starting to love my body for what it is, and stopping the 24/7 obsession about the fact that I am not as skinny as I was when I was 18 anymore. I tell ya, growing up- it’s a good thing!
